Over 100 international bloggers submitted entries to this year’s UNEP competition on the theme of food waste. For the final phase of the competition, the ten shortlisted bloggers have written new articles which are being put forward for public vote in an online ‘showdown’ The blogger gaining the highest number of votes via the WED website will be declared the competition winner, before traveling to Mongolia – host country of WED 2013 – to report on behalf of UNEP. The finalists’ articles are addressing the following themes: 1. How can this generation as a whole make the shift from conspicuous to conscious consumption? 2. How can we promote a culture of conscious consumption using the power of social media? The blogs are available on the World Environment Day website www.unep.org/wed from today, and votes can be cast on the site until 14 to April 2013. After voting, why not promote your favorite blogger online and encourage your Twitter followers and Facebook friends to take part? Don’t forget to use the hashtag #WED2013. The WED Blogging Competition – organized by UNEP and Tree Hugger – has been running since 2010. Previous winners traveled to Rwanda, India and Brazil to report on WED activities. THINK.EAT.SAVE WED 2013 will be held under the theme ‘Think.Eat.Save’ in support of a campaign by UNEP and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to reduce food waste and food loss.
