Major Chinese Company Signs on as Strategic Partner in UN's Flagship Environment Award

Beijing, April 15, 2013 - Guangdong Wealth Environmental Protection Co., Ltd today joined forces with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) as a strategic partner in Champions of Earth-the UN's flagship environmental award given to those whose actions and leadership have had a positive impact on the environment.

Guangdong Wealth has committed to back the awards financially for three years, taking over from previous partner LG Electronics.

"We are delighted to welcome Guangdong Wealth as the strategic corporate partner of Champions of the Earth-an award that each year provides inspiration for world leaders to take the bold decisions needed to put the world on the pathway to a resource-efficient, low-carbon future,' said UNEP's Director of Communications and Spokesperson Nick Nuttall.

"Chinese institutions and companies are showing ever-growing environmental awareness, and we hope this decision by one of China's major companies will further boost public, corporate and government understanding of the need to live sustainable lives."

Champions of the Earth, which was launched in 2005, has to date recognized 51 individuals and organizations for their leadership, vision, inspiration and action on the environment. The list of previous Champions laureates include former Mexican President Felipe Calderon, Chinese actress and environmental advocate Zhou Xun, the Women's Environment & Development Organization (WEDO), global music legend Angélique Kidjo and Mongolia's President Tsakhia Elbegdorj.

"We at Wealth Environmental Protection take our social responsibilities seriously, and were among the first to practice a business model that puts social welfare before economic interests," said company CEO, Mr. Tan Mingzhuo. "Our development concept is 'Let the sky be bluer, the water clearer' and in this regard we have the same philosophy as UNEP in the protection of water resources."

Guangdong Wealth is a high-tech environmental protection enterprise based in Jiangmen City, Guandong Province, China. It is the largest manufacturer of industrial wastewater purifying and sedimentation agents in China.

The company has invested in environmental scholarships for young university students, organized clean-up operations and, in 2005, donated 2,000 tonnes of purifying tablets to clean up sections of a polluted river in Guangdong Beijiang.

As the strategic partner for Champions of the Earth, Guangdong Wealth aims to further expand its positive environmental impact by promoting environmental awareness worldwide.
