Pope Francis' condolences and closeness to the people. The tragic results of the floods in Argentina

Buenos Aires, 4.
Three days of national mourning were announced in Argentina for the victims of the floods which have inundated Buenos Aires and La Plata, the capital of the province, over the last two days. As time passes the effects of the disaster are getting worse. Fifty-four people have been reported dead: 48 in La Plata and  6 in Buenos Aires. Several people drowned
after they were trapped in their cars when the city streets filled with water; others were electrocuted when the power lines collapsed due to the rain. More than 20,000 people have been forced to leave their homes in the flooded areas.
Pope Francis expressed his condolences to the victims and his closeness to their families and to all those effected in a Telegram to Archbishop Mario Aurelio Poli, appointed by him as his successor as Archbishop of Buenos Aires. In the Telegram, signed by Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Secretary of State, the Pope “encourages civil and ecclesiastical institutions, as well as people of good will, to provide  the necessary aid in a spirit of charity and Christian solidarity”.
