The family at the centre
“Pope Francis's work today, like that of Cardinal Bergoglio's when he was Archbishop of Buenos Aires, confirms the centrality of pastoral care of the family and thus of the necessity to defend marriage, family and life”. Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, President of the Pontifical Council for the Family, said this while commenting on the words of the Holy Father to journalists during his return flight from Rio de Janeiro. It was then that the Pontiff revealed in a certain way the theme for the next Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops. The “anthropological” theme which will look at the role of faith in the formation of the human person, specifically in the family and in pastoral care of marriage. In the light of this privileged place of the Pope and the Church's attention, the Dicastery continues its work in bringing awareness to the family and mobilizing families all over the world. The Council recently launched a series of internet initiatives including, among other things, registration for the Year of Faith pilgrimage which will take place in Rome at the end of October in the presence of the Holy Father.
