15 Killed in New Earthquake in Pakistan
Another major earthquake has hit southwestern Pakistan, killing at least 15 people in a region already devastated by a massive quake four days ago.
Authorities say casualties may continue to rise. Saturday's quake in the Awaran district of Baluchistan province, technically an aftershock of Tuesday's catastrophic shock, was a major jolt in itself.
The U.S. Geological Survey measured the earthquake's magnitude as 6.8, while the Pakistani Meteorological Department reported it was 7.2 magnitude. The earthquake brought down more buildings in areas where search-and-rescue efforts already had been under way.
The 7.7-magnitude earthquake that hit the same part of Baluchistan on Tuesday killed hundreds of people and leveled thousands of dwellings. Many people were buried under the rubble.
Baluchistan is home to several Baluch nationalist groups that demand greater rights and a share of gas and mineral revenues.
