British Dreamliner Fire Probe Rules Out Battery
British government investigators say there is no evidence that faulty
batteries caused Friday's fire on a Boeing Dreamliner aircraft at
London's Heathrow Airport.
Britain's Air Accidents Investigation Branch said in a statement Saturday that it is clear that damage to the parked and passenger-less Ethiopian Airlines plane was far from the area where the plane's batteries are located.
Boeing's Dreamliner jets had been grounded earlier this year amid concerns over battery malfunctions. In April, Ethiopian Airlines became the first carrier to resume flights with the passenger planes.
In addition to the plane that caught fire, another Boeing Dreamliner ran into difficulty in Britain Friday.
Thomson Airways said one of its Dreamliners flying from Manchester, England to the U.S. state of Florida experienced what it called a "technical issue." It says the aircraft returned to Manchester Airport as a precautionary measure.
The incident at Heathrow — one of the busiest airports in the world — forced its runways to shut down for nearly an hour.
Shares in Boeing fell on Friday's developments.
